I chose the title for this substack in November 2022 because I find all of us too seldom consider the effects of actions, be they political, scientific, physical, personal, foreign, or anything else. Sometimes the effects are positive while others negative but most definitely something happens after an action that is a discrete moment in time. .
ACC today illustrates the effect of light as it passes (or not) through clouds at sunrise. The colours change by the moment because the earth is constantly moving, the atmosphere absorbing in the sun’s rays at different angles 60 minutes an hour, 24 hours a day.
We tend to notice the sunrises and sunsets because the changing angles of those rays as they strengthen and weaken bring us more perspective on the colours (which are, of course, light) than what we see for most of our waking hours when we sunlight floods us because of the direct passing of the sun above our perspective.
At least that is my story and I am sticking with it. At least one of our readers is a much keener student of physics than I so he might well tell me I am wrong.
Today, however, I highlight the changing beauty of a sunrise over the Chesapeake region this morning to remind us that whatever we think true right now is bound to be different, if not entirely false, four minutes from now.
The shots below are also my wish that you have time every single day to appreciate the sun’s actions and their consequences in the majesty of the world where we live, regardless where you may be.
Everything nine hours later is rather flat to my mind, thought still a wonder. Perhaps the lack of drama is the light’s way of reminding us to appreciate sunrises and sunsets! Our, it is a reminder that I adore the focus of time in transition between days while others take advantage of each hour of the day.
