What a stunning sunrise for the day I celebrate fully a year of Actions Create Consequences. I am honoured to share the photograph as well as your time with this column. Both of these activities bring me so much more excitement than I expected so it’s a delight to combine them up front.
I did not know how deeply satisfying the entire process of a daily addition to Actions Create Consequences would be. At least one of you has told me I am doing too much. I admit some days I struggle with what I can say that is worth your time reading it but we live in such a fascinating world of ‘politix, trials, tribulations, and gratitude’. I could focus the entire column on the gratitude part alone but I want to make sure what I offer has some relevance to our daily lives. The 365 days since I began, along with a few days when I added second entries, included a range of topics centered on all of us remembering that anything we do will have effects, some long term and others instantaneous. This is a guiding principle in my life so I wanted to offer it as a framing mechanism for our world.
I also, as repeatedly noted, seek to expand our civic and civil conversation so lacking today. You all are helping with that so please keep those thoughts coming! Just yesterday, I wrote a column that you may think was about a prominent domestic historic figure. In fact, the initial draft included pointed and detailed citations about the actions of two individuals you perhaps did not think of immediately. I erased my detailed critiques because I wanted to accentuate the problem rather than to sound like I am on a political scree for fear we’d lose track of the overall theme. It’s seductive to think we are seeing ‘one offs’ as problems but I fear the issues we are seeing are more systemic than we want to accept.
Thank you for circulating this to people you know. Please feel free to continue that!
I also especially thank those who pay a subscription. Your support is more important to this than you realise. I am starting a new chat, beginning on Friday, 10 November, specifically for these subscribers. They will receive a special email with instructions on how this will work but it’s a wonderful opportunity for us to exchange views real time on various topics.
For those of you who want to participate in those discussions and to support this column, I am offering a 20% discount through 1 December for paid subscribing to Actions Create Consequences. https://cynthiawatson.substack.com/3e031876 is the link, I believe, to get you that discount. If not, let me know.
I will return tomorrow to what I consider interesting topics tomorrow such as Xi and the CCP indicating China’s women ought be living in 1950 rather than 2023. Or the challenges of rising infant mortality in this country. Or the absolute thanks for a fabulous chickpea and farro stew. And countless other things that are energising for you and for me.
And I still want to hear the issues you think we need be discussing, whether you’re a paid subscriber or someone breathing today. I want to hear what we need be pondering.
Thank you for this banner day.
Be well and be safe. FIN
