Former Secretary of State Michael Pompeo speaks vocally of the China’s Communist Party as the root of the problem between our societies. He focuses on the CCP’s beliefs—communism, totalitarianism, curtailed rights under the Party’s control, and a state-centric economic system—as the danger to us and the world. The alliance between Xi Jinping and Valdimir Putin, by extension, is two authoritarians bent on destroying the freedoms and choices that the western liberal states prefer.

This argument about the threat is one of ‘ideas’ spreading, if my anecdotal experiences of late are any indication. I am attending a conference at Carlisle Barracks this week where we hear more reference to this war of values and ideas than we did even a year ago.

Xi Jinping certainly speaks frequently on the ideas that a CCP-led superpower can bring to the world. He waxes on about the China model he believes will advance
