One of our loyal readers pointed out I managed to omit that our Timely Topic webinar on ‘Life in the Attaché Lane’ is from 5.00-6.30 in the evening Eastern US time on Monday, 19 June. Mindy Kamphausen, of the University of Connecticut Business School, and Roy Kamphausen, of the National Bureau of Asian Research, will increase our understanding of how hard and yet gratifying it can be representing our nation (or anyone’s) in China. I offer a transcript of the event to those loyal folks who financially support this substack column. I do hope you can tune in.
I also snared COL Ted Donnelly and COL Rob Timm to discuss more detail on Russia’s current conditions in and around Ukraine. With Vlad’s return to threatening nuclear weapons as part of his bag of tricks, this conversation becomes more relevant. We are settling on a date so stay tuned.
It’s been an intense few days. Annapolis celebrated Juneteenth this afternoon with a huge marching band. The Creek is at its glorious summer best in response.
I offer some quiet appreciation of what really caught my eye during walks across Eastport these last couple of days. The delicacy of life versus the buffeting stories of our world.
and then my three favourites, beginning with one of the many pollinators in our ubiquitous speedwell of Eastport. This plant is actually in our particular community.
This calla surprised me because it’s so delicate in colour.
And I do so love this determination for live between the bricks and the path. The indominable spirit of life!
Take the water taxi from City Dock to come visit the Spa Creek buoys and communities.
Life is so good. Wonder what it was like three hundred years ago????
Have a superamundo evening. Thank you for sharing part of the afternoon with me.

What a magnificent thought. Thank you, Steve. I think photographs nourish the soul when they have colour.
Thank you so much, James! It means a lot to see.
