Today’s is a simple post for a Sunday in early February in the northern hemisphere. The mid-Atlantic could (did merely three weeks ago) have oodles of snow with frigid temperatures ( A piece I glanced at on Canada’s Yukon mentioned -35 degrees F).
Instead, today is a day of such splendour. From first thing this morning, when the sunrise was so bright.
Mid afternoon, the Creek sparkled though not because anyone was necessarily sailing.
I did see three powerboats by 4.20 pm on the way towards or from the Compromise Street Bridge but no boarders seemed out. I suppose with temperatures in the mid-40s I ought not be surprised.
By the late afternoon, the fading day was still inspiring. A lone kayaker appeared. It was quite something to stare at the splendour with Judy Collins’ crystal clear rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ playing in the background. (It’s quite a song but I will never forget seeing this woman with penetrating blue eyes in Zabar’s on New York’s Upper West Side about 15 years ago. I thought she reminded me of …oh, my: it was Judy Collins. I almost ran away for fear I was violating what clearly she hoped would be an unrecognised trip to the store. Serendipity is magnificent.)
Life is so good but too often I am absorbed in some utterly irrelevant crisis to appreciate it. What was your splendour today? I would love to share it.
Thank you for reading this column today. I am glad every day is not always dire but appreciate your thoughts, rebuttals, and comments.
Be well and be safe. FIN
Excellent!! We miss going to the Chart House on Sunday afternoons right when they open and grabbing a seat by the windows looking out over the Annapolis Harbor and the Naval Academy. It was one of our favorite "go to" spots!
