Andre Harvey was an American sculptor who specialised in two fascinating aspects of his craft—and my use of craft is with only the absolute highest level of respect as I would use it for an unparalleled teacher. He worked in the ‘lost wax’ method and he found animals, especially four legged ones, absolutely fascinating. Regardless the subject, Harvey meticulously studied to gather its details, then translate them into sculpture.

A Delaware resident who studied literature at the University of Virginia, he and his wife Bobbie went to Europe in the 1960s where Harvey encountered sculptors working through the painstaking steps of creating a wax model of an item they sought
