The struggle in the IndoPacific took a new twirl this week as the Australian, British, and U.S. leader (AUKUS) convened in San Diego to detail their commitments to the Australian submarine deal announced eighteen months ago. Australia becomes more enmeshed with strategic partners in London and Washington by building a series of nuclear-powered submarines with their help. This trilateral security arrangement not only assists Royal Australian Navy capacity dramatically but also offers U.S. and British companies an outlet for selling their technical expertise and design. AUKUSalso includes hypersonic technology, cyber exchanges, and several other aspects of twenty-first century defense making this new pact a robust security agreement.
