I like one-liners as do so many people. My favourite (and touchstone) is ‘The sun will rise in the East tomorrow’. Second on the list is Dorothy’s profundity at the end of The Wizard of Oz: ‘There’s no place like home’.
That latter hits the mark today. On top of our missed flight Sunday, our flight from Istanbul yesterday departed fully five and a half hours late. The huge board greeting us as we entered the airport three hours before our flight’s scheduled departure announced this disappointing news. I hoped my eyesight was worse than it is. Alas, it was not.
We were lucky enough to get into the lounge where food was good and seats were crowded but sufficient.they had few plugs for recharging but the world continued without them. I don’t think there were any aisles I missed walk along, knowing I would be seated for ten hours if and when we departed. But I—both of us were ready to come home.
It was a late., or early if you focused on that perspective, hour when we pulled into our parking spot. The cats were so confused they did not squak for mid rats (midnight rations).
Of course the jet lag and drive from Dulles meant I was wired when I tried sleeping. No such luck so I crept out of the bedroom at about my normal hour.
The Naval Academy had their athletic field lit when I let the cat onto the balcony at 0500. That was pretty by itself
Today’s sunrise was soothing.
The buoys are full in anticipation of the big event.
Even the later morning fog was welcome, if complete expected. We wondered aloud if the Canadian wildfires resumed in our absence.
Yet again I am struck how profoundly the act of being away from what we love ignites appreciation of the profound beauty, importance to us, and the reminder to appreciate whatever the object of importance is.
As the sailboats, catamarans, and powerboats moor for this weekend’s Power Boat Show, I am all the more aware of how amazing Annapolis is for so many. It’s not for everyone’s taste but is anything universal except death and taxes? Oh, I guess the water fowl are drawn to the excitement as well.
Thank you for reading Actions Create Consequences as it’s you, the readers, who matter. Today is brief but I don’t take your time for granted so I won’t spin something trite to generate the electrons. Thank you for your time, no matter who you are.
Be well and be safe. FIN
Welcome home!
