Cliff, I most definitely agree with your anxiety about the debt!! We all will prioritize things definitely but we are NIT making headway nor are we seriously DISCUSSING those priorities. We are in a downward spiral with no bottom in sight.
I was a junior in High School in Boise. We got the ash on everything here for a week or more. About 10 years ago, I had the opportunity to actually visit Mt St Helens. It was a bit somber thinking about all the loss of life (human, animal and plant)...and you can still see the massive changes in landscape caused by the eruption. But the raw beauty is still visible as well and offers hope for the future.
I think there may be a bit of analogy in there was well. The mountain had been increasing pressure for decades (or longer) until it couldn't take any more. The eruption was the pressure release. It was instant, violent and damaging. As you said, some may have seen it coming but their warnings fell on deaf ears.
Is our country in the same situation now? We all feel the pressure mounting. Some are identifying the warning signs of a potentially extreme release... but when...and how? Are the rest of us listening? I suppose if there is some good news, nature seems to balance these things out. I can only hope that if our Nation does experience some kind of explosive eruption that we survive it and while we may see the scars for decades afterwards, perhaps some raw, underlying beauty will emerge from the ashes.
I am currently trying to explain to a 22 year old Grandson that you can’t always have everything you want, when you want it. The same with Government. I am upset that the City Council is planning on cutting $4 million from the school budget. But, yet, the Nation Debt seems to be going up about $29 Billion a week. We will soon push past $37 Trillion in debt. Terra Incognito, as they used to say. When that erupts a lot will be quickly washed away.
You got my point entirely
