Depression is not new nor is it easy for anyone. It is pernicious and almost invariably a loop that is bloody difficult to exit.
If you know someone suffering from depression, please do not ignore it. Don’t assume you can solve the problem but you can be a listener who makes a difference by directing the individual to assistance. Help the person take the first steps.
The Center for Disease Control offers a website on suicide, which is the worst outcome of depression. For information, see https://www.cdc.gov/suicide/factors/index.html
Hotlines exist with staffed professionals. Urge any individual to get help, facilitating that if possible.
You may well change or save a life.
