Thank you. I wish I were not on a razor’s edge with everyone else right now.

As we hurtle towards Election Day, the rhetoric among friends and chat groups grows heated. Your very good lessons for today are: "Pause is our superpower," and "must I have the last word or will what I have to say advance the conversation?" Critical concepts.

I always tried to apply the "24 hour" rule on email replies. I'd write it usually in an emotional or at least perturbed frame of mind...wait 24 hrs before sending then re-read. About 90% of the time I either significantly changed the wording or didn't send it at all. Served me well over the years.

I agree with previous comment / reply. You're the most unbiased, fact-based researcher / writer I know. You're also not shy about introducing touchy topics for discussion which I'm guessing many of us appreciate! Too many people have much too thin skin today. One word becomes "trigger" for way too many. Sad we've arrived there. Keep pushing the discussion!

You are the most civil, intellectual, and non-racist person I know, Cynthia. But your point is well taken that it's best to take a breath and consider the possible negative implications of a rapid response made in anger. Thanks for reminding us of this universal truth.

Cynthia

I value your opinions and find you a fair judge. But, your words here are good advice. We need to be pulling folks into the circle, not pushing them away.
