This morning, I watched the Netflix documentary regarding Apollo 13's dramatic return to earth. It's a great documentary and goes into more factual detail than the popular movie...although the movie did a pretty good job overall as well. Worth watching. The reason I mention it here is that the footage they showed exhibited one of the rare times in our World's history where just about every country and their population seemed to come together in hope, prayer and breathlessness as we collectively watched the drama play out in front of us. I was only 7 when this took place and while I had a good understanding of the space program and the significance of our landing on the moon back then, I don't recall the Apollo 13 episode playing out.
Reading your posting this morning regarding what it takes to bring antagonists to the point of reconciliation is an interesting study. Given many relationships in today's global climate, it's hard to see how some relationships could ever be resolved even to the point of just harmonious living. But events like Apollo 13 do offer a glimpse of hope and the possible. I wonder what it would take for the people of the world to once again, stop...and come together as humans for the common good?
Happy New Year to all! Let's hope it's one of peace, health and prosperity.
Thanks for the suggestion and observation. Sorry about Boise State, too.
agreed and thanks for your thoughts!
